Acts of the Apostles 5,27b-32. 40b-41. Apoc.5,11-14. Jn.21,1-19
The third Sunday of Easter is full of many reflections.
Acts of the Apostles- We have witness over these last few weeks the growth of the Church. Just think, 12 to 2000 etc. Wow - the witnesss and testimonies of the apostles and disciples must have been powerful with the help of the Holy Spirit. These men and women not only spoke the word but lived it by their lives. Good example of what we should be doing in our lives today.
Apocalypse 5,11-14 - the glory of the Lord, worship, adoration etc. I thought about our vigil here In Cambita, D. R. . The people were singing and almost dancing as the sang the Gloria. The church was alive as some of you probably experienced in your Churches. Reminds us of the chorus of angels worshiping the Lord in the reading of the apocalypse.
John 21;1-19 - There are 2 parts in this reading. The first part is about the third appearance of Jesus to his Apostles. They were 7 in the boat, Thomas, Nathaniel, the Zebedeos , John, Andrew and Peter.
All had their doubts and fears yet Jesus was patient with them all. As the boat came closer to the shore, there was Jesus but they didn’t recognize him because he had changed. His body had been transformed and he entered a new way of being and his body was not the same body that was nailed to the cross, but it was the same man, Jesus.
He had prepared bread and fishes. Fishes -symbol of the new covenant, the new people of God.
Bread -you will know me in the breaking of the bread.
Dialogue with Peter - This is Peter being forgiven by the Lord for denying him -3 times. But Peter never asked for forgiveness and Jesus never forgives him.with words but Jesus asks him, Simon, do you love me more than all theses others? You know I love you, Lord.
So the key is in the loving. And this is what is meant by the little passage.
The Church is founded on the love of God which doesn’t ask that we ask for forgiveness. God forgives before we ask. Let us go forth to meet people with this unconditional love and ask for nothing in return.
